ethnographie-poubelle

The term trash ethnography indicates an artistic process invented by the artist Antoine Larocque, which combines field collection with the aesthetics of garbage and waste. Inspired by daily observations, he adopts a poetical and subjective approach, freed from academic constraints. Larocque gathers fragments—of texts, images, objects, thoughts, and conversations—which he then reimagines and transforms in the studio, allowing for accident and improvisation. The works function as distorting mirrors, examining the role of artists in Quebec society and the influence of pop culture and the media on our imagination.
