An outlandish audiovisual menagerie in which hybrid voices and bodies create an immersive experience that is both beautiful and grotesque.
Morfofonium is an immersive audiovisual installation created by the artist Beth Frey in collaboration with the vocal collective Phth. Reconfigured for the space at DRAC, the work features a multichannel environment in which watercolours, drawings, video, and mobile technologies intersect. Using body collage and digital manipulation, Frey transforms the vocalists into hybrid creatures. These forms interact with an experimental, eclectic, and surprising vocal score. Broadcast in a loop on several screens and loudspeakers, the installation activates the space, encouraging visitors to walk in it. A few complementary works show the collaborative process, blurring the boundaries between creation and presentation.
