Actions collectives. Regards féministes sur la collection

This exhibition presents a feminist reading of the Musée d’art de Joliette’s (MAJ) 80-year history through 80 works of art from its permanent collection. It serves as a counterbalance to the Museum’s current holdings, only 12 % of which are works by women.

The narratives that emerge are structured along three timelines. The first explores some of the major changes in women’s social and political conditions, as well as the political engagement of artists from Quebec and elsewhere. The second looks at the aesthetic and stylistic choices women artists have made throughout the history of art. The third outlines the history of women’s involvement with the MAJ.
