When art transforms wounds into light and opens the path to inner healing.
Presented at the Musée des Abénakis until March 29, 2026, this exhibition traces the intimate journey of multidisciplinary artist Sonia Basile-Martel. Rooted in her Atikamekw and Québécois identity, Revenir de loin | Warowik E Otciteian explores identity reconciliation, resilience, and healing through a deeply personal artistic approach. Through her works, the artist revisits her childhood, her roots, and her relationship with herself. Wounds from the past, silences, and shadowed spaces become sites of creation, where writing, imagery, and material are transformed into light and gentleness. Presented as a pivotal moment in the artist’s trajectory, the exhibition bears witness to a sense of inner calm and a creative rebirth. Art emerges here as a powerful vehicle for truth, hope, and transmission, inviting visitors to embrace the light that can arise, even after the most difficult paths.
