Fables originated during the time of oral tradition. The earliest fables that were recorded in writing, date back to the 8th century BC. This type of story telling has survived throughout the centuries – from the Greek poet Hesiod, to Jean de La Fontaine who popularized the genre in the 17th century. The life lessons behind these fictional tales can be equally applied to today’s society. This exhibition compares the dreamy mythology of Marc Chagall’s paintings to Carol Wainio’s fairy-tale imagery – artists separated by a century. This exhibition is on loan from the Musée d’art contemporain de Baie-Saint-Paul.
