Artworks exhibited for the first time!

Between Decor and Devotion presents key works from the Hospitalières’ collection, some of which are on view at the museum for the first time. Large-format canvases attributed to the painters Joseph Légaré, Louis Dulongpré, Antoine Plamondon, and Jean-Baptiste Roy-Audy, as well as wood and plaster sculptures and paintings on copper immerse us in the devotional world of the Hospitalières. The selected works reflect both the history of the community and the history of Quebec art. By offering a journey through traditional production methods and various stylistic approaches, they invite visitors to explore the decorative elements that once adorned the various rooms of the convent complexes of the Hospitalières in Montreal (monasteries, chapels, and infirmaries).
