A fossil unlike any other in the world—an icon of life’s evolution on Earth.
In this exhibition hall entirely dedicated to Elpistostege watsoni, visitors can discover the world’s only complete known fossil of this key species, preserved with remarkable detail. Its anatomy, strikingly close to that of the earliest four limbed vertebrates, bears witness to a pivotal moment in evolution. A faithful reconstruction created by a paleoartist brings the animal back to life as it would have appeared 380 million years ago. An introductory projection then explores the mystery of our origins and the century long scientific quest to uncover a more complete specimen of this animal, the rarest fish species preserved in the park’s cliffs. Finally, a guided activity reveals the latest secrets uncovered through ongoing research on this unique fossil. Together, these elements offer an immersive and enlightening experience, drawing visitors into a landmark discovery for understanding the origins of tetrapods.
