Thousands of full and vibrant lives were lived here over the past millennia. Their memory endures in the few traces they left behind. Because the human adventure they reveal to archaeologists unfolded largely on my land. It is I, Pointe-du-Buisson, who will tell you this story.
This story begins 5,000 years BP, 5,000 years Before Present…
Voices from the past aims to tell and bring to life the millennia‑old history of Pointe-du-Buisson through the perspectives of archaeology and Indigenous oral tradition. Archaeology has interpretive limits, yet these can coexist with those of the First Nations, for whom every element of a system is interconnected, forming a living and animated whole—human beings, animals, plants, minerals, spirits, and beliefs. The scientific approach of archaeology is quite different. It develops an understanding of the data it collects by compartmentalizing, categorizing, and labeling it. This coexistence gives rise to a meeting rich in wonder and discovery! Finally, this exhibition engages all five senses. It offers a didactic, interactive, and immersive experience that encourages discovery, reflection, and the acquisition of knowledge in an authentic, evocative, and inspiring setting.
