About the museum

The Galerie Montcalm, at Gatineau city hall, is unique in the area, enjoying special status through its connection with the City’s permanent fine art and public art collection. Since opening in 1980, it has helped to establish the city’s international reputation. The gallery received a prize from the SMQ in 2006 and the Award of Outstanding Achievement in Exhibitions – Art from the Canadian Museums Association in 2017. The Galerie, which is located near the Canadian Museum of History, gives professional artists from the region, the country and the world a prime showcase for displaying their work. There are six exhibitions a year, covering a great range of styles, including interdisciplinary shows. The goal: to broaden our understanding and appreciation of the visual arts.
