About the museum
Located in the heart of downtown Saint-Jérôme, the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides (MAC LAU) is one of the most important cultural destinations in the Laurentians.
Did you know that the building that houses the Museum is a former courthouse? During the construction of the current courthouse, a group of committed artists from the Laurentians formed to avoid the destruction of the “Vieux-Palais” and make it an exhibition center. Thus was born the Musée d’art contemporain des Laurentides in 1979. Discover current practices in contemporary art through a program of permanent and temporary exhibitions, which notably features numerous artists from the Laurentians, Quebec and Canada. Quand la collection prédit l’avenir : If the title of this permanent exhibition may seem anachronistic, it evokes the idea of taking charge of our institution’s future in regards to the history of our transformations, so that our future decisions may be inspired by this history. The public now has access to a large part of the collection (12%) via a museum reserve furniture located in the heart of the exhibition space. Learn more about the permanent exhibition by exploring the museum’s digital application, following your interests.
