About the museum

The Saguenay Fjord – one of the world’s longest – offers an absolutely grandiose panorama. The Musée du Fjord celebrates this spectacular landscape and reveals its secrets, with unforgettable experiences combining science and culture.

Dive into the heart of the Saguenay Fjord and experience a unique adventure at the Musée du Fjord. Its mission is to showcase the sciences, especially aquatic sciences, and to highlight the natural and historical heritage of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, particularly the Saguenay Fjord and the Baie des Ha! Ha! The museum also raises public awareness about the importance of maintaining a balanced relationship with the natural environment. Explore a 53,000-liter saltwater aquarium home to sea stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and other local species. This immersive experience provides insight into their habitats, lifestyles, and roles within the marine ecosystem. Continue your visit aboard the Navis for an immersive journey through the history and formation of the fjord, brought to life through a captivating multimedia show. The From BALSAC to CopaQ exhibition connects you with the region’s collective history and advances in genealogy and genetics in Quebec. From the creation of the BALSAC database in the 1970s to the participatory CopaQ platform, this exhibition highlights the contributions of citizens to science and their connection to the history of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. During the summer season, the museum also offers outdoor activities: low-tide excursions to discover the hidden life along the shores, and guided tours of the historic Saint-Alexis neighborhood, providing an immersive look at the region’s cultural and architectural heritage. Science, nature, and history come together to offer a rich, engaging experience for the whole family, combining learning with wonder.
