About the museum

Founded in 1974, this museum explores Québec’s traditional rural parish and now focuses on an ethnographic approach to resources, artefacts and exhibits with agri-food themes.

Founded in 1974 thanks to the dedicated collaboration of local supporters, the Quebec Museum of Agriculture and Food was known until 2016 as the Musée François-Pilote, honoring the man who established Canada’s first permanent agricultural school in 1859. While the institution has since updated its mission, it remains a tribute to Father Pilote’s legacy, offering visitors a captivating look at extensive ethnographic collections and taxidermy across several themed galleries. By showcasing ancient customs, meticulous historical reconstructions, and everyday objects from the past—such as vintage toys and tools—the museum provides a journey that allows both adults and children to appreciate the ingenuity and complexity of our ancestors’ lives.
