Sticky, shiny, wrinkled or simply ugly: although nature has not
spoiled them, some species attract our curiosity. Questioning their
appearance means learning to look at them differently and to
understand their specificity. Even hideous, these animals are
essential players in life, because they contribute to biodiversity.
Their surprising characteristics encourage us to review our
perception and to question the criteria that define ugliness, including
those we have for ourselves and for others.
The exhibition will explain how our relationships with “ugly animals”
have evolved and what historical and cultural elements could be at
the origin of disgust and phobia towards certain species. Humor and
science coexist in this original exhibition!
The mission
of the Musée du Fjord is to promote science, particularly aquatic science, and
to interpret the natural and historical heritage of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean
region, especially that of the Saguenay Fjord and Ha! Ha! Bay. The Museum
also raises awareness among the community and the wider public about the
importance of maintaining a harmonious balance with the natural environment.
