Locality Number (Site/Habitat/Origin)

Definition:

  • This field contains a number associated with the locality where the specimen originated.

Observation:

  • The locality number may appear on a topographic map pertaining to the distribution of a species or on a geological map.
    Example

    Record for lithology A of outcrop 56 of a sandstone specimen

      Rock Name sandstone
    Locality Number 56A

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the full number or code for the locality where the specimen originated, respecting its official form.
    Example

    A stibnite specimen from outcrop 0670 on a geological map of Nova Scotia.

      Originating Continent North America
      Originating Country Canada
      Originating Province Nova Scotia
    Locality Number 0670
  2. If you are unsure whether your information is correct, include a space and a question mark after the number.
    Example
