Borden Number (Identification)

Definition:

Observations:

1. Enter the Borden number for the site where the object was found.
2. The Borden system is an alphanumeric coding system for archaeological sites designed by Charles E. Borden in 1952, used to indicate small sections of territory in Canada. The uppercase letters represent intervals of two degrees of latitude and four degrees of longitude, which are placed in the form of a dual-entry table to produce a grid (e.g. the grid CF). The lowercase letters represent smaller grid squares, obtained by subdividing the large grids into intervals of 10 minutes (e.g. subdivision CdFm). These letters are followed by a sequence number assigned to each site.

3. The Quebec Department of culture and communications (MCCQ) assigns a Borden number to each archaeological site under its jurisdiction.

Entry rules:

1. Enter the Borden number, respecting the convention by which the first letter is upper case, the second lower case, the third upper case, and the fourth lower case. This first block is followed by a hyphen and the sequence number.
   Example

   	Borden Number	BiEx-2

2. If only the uppercase letters are known, enter "z" in place of the two lowercase letters.
   Example

   	Borden Number	BzEz-4

3. Enter any additional characters after the sequence number, separated by a space.
   Example

   	Borden Number	CiEo-12 A-C
