Elevation (Site/Habitat/Origin)

Field used for natural science collections

Definition:

  • This field indicates the elevation (or height above sea level) of the site where the specimen was collected or sampled.

Observation:

  • The elevation must be indicated in metres. Do not enter the word "metre" or the abbreviation "m" in this field, since this convention applies in all cases.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the elevation, in real numbers.
    Example

    Elevation3600
  2. Measurements below sea level should be expressed as negative integers. Enter the minus sign "-" and the elevation.
    Example

    Elevation-100
  3. If you are unsure whether your information is correct, include a space and a question mark after the elevation.
    Example

    Elevation234 ?
  4. This field may not contain more than one entry.
