Originating Province (Site/Habitat/Origin)

Definition:

Observations:

1. This field may also contain the name of a Canadian territory, an American state, a British county, a Swiss canton, a French department, a Japanese prefecture or any other equivalent of the term "province."
   Example

   	Discipline	mineralogy
   	Species	sphalerite
   	Originating Continent	Europe
   	Originating Country	Spain
   	Originating Province	Cantabria

2. For better search results in your database, avoid a large variety of terms; draw up an authority list and add province names as necessary. See documentation tip No. 2 (in French only) for bibliographic references.
3. This field is used in conjunction with the Originating Continent and Originating Country fields.
   Example

   	Discipline	paleontology
   	Genus	Echinocyamus
   	Species	pyriformis
   	Originating Continent	Europe
   	Originating Country	Italy
   	Originating Province	Liguria

Entry rules:

1. Enter the full name of the province; do not use abbreviations.
   Example

   	Discipline	mineralogy
   	Species	quartz
   	Originating Continent	North America
   	Originating Country	United States
   	Originating Province	Vermont
   	and not
   	Originating Province	Vt

2. If the name of the originating province has changed, first enter its current name, followed by a comma and a space, then the name that applied when the specimen was collected.
   Example

   	Discipline	ornithology
   	Genus	Uria
   	Species	lomvia
   	Originating Continent	North America
   	Originating Country	Canada
   	Originating Province	Nunavut, Northwest Territories

3. If you are unsure whether your information is correct, include a space and a question mark after the name of the province.
   Example

   	Originating Province	Bavaria ?

4. This field may not contain more than one entry.
