Between Earth and Sky

Contemplating Quebec’s Birds at Risk

This permanent exhibition presents the Desmarais collection: 23 spectacularly realistic wood sculptures of birds. These life-size works, by Louis St-Cyr and Brenda Fry, captivate with their striking scenes of life, sometimes defying gravity, the result of thousands of hours of creation.

23 life-size bird sculptures of remarkable realism.

The Desmarais Collection features 21 remarkable wood sculptures of birds depicting 23 species found in Quebec. The species are represented by compositions that vividly depict scenes of life, some seemingly defying gravity. These life-size works, created by Quebec sculptor Louis St-Cyr and Canadian painter Brenda Fry, represent thousands of hours of work. The selection of species highlights certain bird populations considered to be increasing, declining, or at risk in the province. This underscores the importance of remaining vigilant regarding habitat loss and encouraging measures aimed at protecting, conserving, and enhancing biodiversity.
