Object Type (Identification)

Definition:

  • This field contains details on the nature of the object.

Observations:

  1. N.B.: Do not confuse this field with the Object Name field. The Object Name field contains the standardized object name while the Object Type field contains details on the nature of the object.
    Example

  2. When the object name consists of several terms inextricably associated with the object, enter them in the Object Name field and leave the Object Type field blank.
    Example

     Object Name bed headboard
    Object Type 
     and not 
     Object Name headboard
     Object Typebed
  3. The Object Type field contains details on the configuration of the object.
    Example

     Object Name altarpiece
    Object Type low relief
  4. The Object Type field contains details on the use of the object.
    Example

     Object Name toolbox
    Object Typeblacksmith's
  5. The Object Type field contains details on the structure of the object.
    Example

     Object Namefresco
    Object Typepolyptych

Entry rules:

  1. If you enter an adjective in the Object Type field, it should agree with the gender of the noun entered in the Object Name field (when entering French terms).
    Example

     Object Name canne à pêche
    Object Typedormante
  2. If you are unsure whether your information is correct, include a space and a question mark after the word.
  3. This field may contain multiple entries separated by a semicolon followed by a space.
    Example
