Cataloguer (Cataloguing)

Definition:

  • This field contains the name of the individual responsible for documenting the object.

Observation:

  • Enter the names of all the people who documented the object in this field.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the family name, comma, space and first name.
    Example

    Cataloguer Pelletier, Jean-Jacques
  2. Initials should be followed by periods.
    Example

    Cataloguer MacDonald, Georges L.
  3. Periods and commas should be followed by a space unless they are followed by other punctuation.
    Example

    Cataloguer Adams, C. A.; Freeman, Louise
  4. If an individual has an honorific title, enter his or her family name, comma, space, first name, comma, space and the title.
    Example

    Cataloguer Laplante, Camille, Sister
  5. If you wish to enter two names for the same individual, first enter the name by which he or she is best known, according to the entry rules, and then the other name, in parentheses, without inverting it.

    Cataloguer Dupuis, Juliette (Juliette Carrier)
    Example 2

    Cataloguer Saint-Stanislas, Sister, a.s.v. (Gabrielle Beaulieu)
  6. This field may contain multiple entries separated by a semicolon followed by a space. Each name in the Cataloguer field should correspond to a date in the Catalogue Date field.
    Example

    A painting was documented on September 7, 1984 by Josée Minh. Richard Martin documented it again on March 2, 1992.
