Definition:

  • This field contains the measurement of the maximum length of the object.

Observations:

  1. Length is one of the horizontal dimensions of an object.
  2. Length is used only for objects with no main side; the length then designates the larger horizontal dimension, and width, the smaller dimension.
  3. For objects with a main side, use the width and depth and not the length.
  4. Refer to the "How to measure objects" section of the Guide.
  5. This field is used in conjunction with the Unit Linear field.
  6. Dimensions should always be expressed in centimetres, except when the object is too large or too small.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter a single measurement, in real numbers.
    Example

     Unit Linearcm
    Length13.45
  2. Details regarding measurements and comments about partial or questionable measurements should be noted in the Dimension/Weight Remarks field.
    Example

     Unit Linearcm
    Length17
Dimension/Weight Remarks The length indicated is questionable.
  3. This field may not contain more than one entry.
