Length (Dimensions)

Definition:

  • This field contains the measurement of the maximum length of the specimen.

Observations:

  1. Length is the greater horizontal dimension of a specimen. For naturalized birds, length is measured along the back, from the tip of the beak to the tip of the tail.
  2. This field is used in conjunction with the Unit Linear field.
  3. Dimensions should always be expressed in centimetres, except when the item is too large or too small.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter a single measurement, in real numbers.

  2. Details regarding measurements and comments about partial or questionable measurements should be noted in the Dimension/Weight Remarks field.
