Manufacturer (Identification)

Definition:

  • This field contains the name or business name of the manufacturer of the object.

Observation:

  • N.B.: Use the Manufacturer field if the object was manufactured by an organization or business. If the object was handmade by one or more individuals, use the Artist/Maker field instead. Use both the Artist/Maker and Manufacturer fields when the object was created by an artist or maker and then manufactured.
    Example

    A medallion created by Stanley Hayman and manufactured by Gem-Or Ltd.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the name of the organization or business, without inverting it.
    Example

    ManufacturerCompagnie Rolland
     and not 
     Manufacturer Rolland, Compagnie
  2. Enter the name of the business as it was officially used when the object was produced. Enter the acronym if it is the most widely known name of the business, followed by the full name in parentheses.
    Example

    Manufacturer IBM (International Business Machines)
  3. Do not use your own translation.
    Example

    Manufacturer Banque nationale de Paris
     and not 
     Manufacturer National Bank of Paris
  4. When the manufacturer's name exists in several languages, including English or French, enter the name in the language used to document your collections, regardless of what is marked on the object.
    Example

      Object Nameblanket
    Manufacturer Hudson Bay Company
     and not 
     Manufacturer Compagnie de la Baie d'Hudson
  5. This field may contain multiple entries separated by a semicolon followed by a space. Names should be listed in order of importance.
    Example

      Object Namedoor
    Manufacturer Miracle Doors Inc.; Brault and Sons, Glaziers
